French Oak Chips - Medium Toast

French Oak chips are roasted between 350 - 375 °F to give them a medium toast. These chips allow you to imitate storing your wine in an oak barrel without the expense. A medium toast will give you notes of vanilla and caramel. For white wine, 1 cup of chips is recommended. For reds you may go with 2 cups. Using them is as simple as boiling the chips in water for 10 minutes, draining, and placing the chips in your plastic or glass fermenter before transferring.
