Mexican Lager is the fastest growing segment in beer today. To their pedigree Mexican Lagers are a Viennese Lager with a slightly darker than straw appearance and a fuller body than their Czech or German counterparts. Today’s examples are a much lighter and smaller version of that. Our take on the style plays at that pedigree with some Vienna Malt, while keeping with the idea of a simple crushable lager flavor with some flaked corn, and a late addition of Motueka for a touch of citrus hoppy aroma so you can save your limes for your margaritas.

EXPERIMENTAL BREWING IDEAS

Lemongrass's citrus aroma and lemon flavor create a subtle but unique addition to a lager. Add 2-3 ounces late in the boil or at flame out for an aromatic twist to your beer.

CULINARY CORNER

The simple answer here is Mexican food but lets be a little more adventurous. The subtle citrus character from the Motueka hop will pair well with a light citrusy seafood dish. Try it with trout baked with lemon and dill.
